La Coupe des Montagnes – Ice Hockey New Zealand’s popular senior ice hockey tournament in Queenstown, returns for 2025!
Named La Coupe des Montagnes – or – The Mountain Cup – the tournament aims to provide adult players a fun weekend of hockey, competing against other players from around New Zealand and the world, with the support of Queenstown Ice Hockey Club.
A full schedule will be made available soon, but to allow participants to plan, the first game will start on Thursday 9th October 5pm, and the last game will finish by 3:30pm on Sunday 12th October. If your availability on Thursday night will be a problem, please let us know so we can try to accommodate.
Pool A will play 4 games, for a total cost of $1,840 per team. Pools B, C and D will play 5 games, for a total cost of $2,300 per team. Free agents can register below, and be assigned to a team by a team manager.
Game format will be 3x 17-minute running time periods, with 1-minute breaks between periods. For playoff games, if the score difference is only one goal, the final minute of the third period will be stop-clock. This format aligns with our standard approach for senior leagues
We are inviting registrations in to four divisions:
Pool A: International
Designed for visiting international teams seeking a memorable travel and hockey experience in Queenstown. Competitive games with an emphasis on fun and connection. Level: Experienced.
Pool B: Premier
Tailored for higher-skilled players wanting fast-paced, competitive hockey. Teams may include up to 3 active NZIHL players. All in the spirit of a great weekend with your mates. Level: Advanced
Pool C: Social
Ideal for developing or recreational players looking to enjoy a relaxed and friendly hockey atmosphere. Note: No active NZIHL players permitted. Level: Beginner to Intermediate
Pool D: Women’s
Open to women of all skill levels. A supportive and inclusive environment where participation and fun come first. Level: All levels.
Tournament Details:
Thursday 9th October – Sunday 12th October 2025.
All players must be 18 years of age and older and hold an active Ice Hockey New Zealand membership.
The tournament cost is $2,300.00 NZD per team. Team managers will register and pay for the team entry fee.
Limited places are available per division, places will be allocated on a first come first served basis, with a waiting list thereafter.
Free agents can register below, and be assigned to a team by a team manager.

Terms & Conditions:
All participants must hold an active Ice Hockey New Zealand membership, and have agreed to all the tournament rules. As an Ice Hockey New Zealand and therefore IIHF sanctioned event, all participants are bound by Ice Hockey New Zealand’s competition and displinary guidelines.
All participants must be aged 18+ at the time of the tournament.
Team managers must submit their final roster by Thursday 25th September, at which point all players will be checked to ensure they hold an active Ice Hockey New Zealand membership, and that they have agreed to all tournament rules.
